Departure FAQs

All your answers in one place

We’ve gathered answers to common questions about the move-out process to help make your departure as smooth and stress-free as possible. If there’s anything we haven’t covered, feel free to reach out—we are here to help!

1. What time do I need to check out?

Check-out is required before or by 10:00 am on your contract end date. Make sure to have all your belongings out of the room and return your access card by this time.

2. Can I leave before my contract end date?

Yes, if you need to leave before the contract end date, please inform the front desk, or complete the early departure form. We’ll arrange to disable your access card and check you out of the property.

Please note that you are responsible for payment of your rent until the end of your contract even if you are departing earlier.

3. How do I return my access card?

If you’re leaving during office hours, you can return your access card directly to front desk. If you’re leaving outside of office hours, you can leave the card in your room on the desk and remember to notify us by email.

4. What happens during the departure inspection?

We conduct a departure inspection after you leave to evaluate the cleanliness of your apartment compared to the original condition report. If you wish to be present during the inspection, please contact the front desk to book an inspection before your departure.

5. How clean does my room need to be?

Your room should be cleaned to the standard it was in when you moved in. You can opt to clean your apartment yourself or allow Iglu to arrange the cleaning service for a fee. If you’re cleaning your own apartment, follow our cleaning checklist to make sure you don’t miss any areas. Any additional cleaning required could result in extra fees.

6. What do I do with items I don’t want to take with me?

You can donate gently used items to local charities or fellow residents—just bring them to front desk. Larger items or rubbish should be disposed of in the waste room or skip bins provided. Please don’t leave unwanted items in common areas, as disposal fees may apply.

7. How do I get my bond refund?

To receive your bond refund, you need to have converted to an online bond and have an Australian bank account. If you haven’t done this yet, please set it up before you leave. Refunds are processed within 14 days of your lease end date.

8. What if I haven’t set up my online bond account?

If you haven’t set up an online bond account, check your email for the link that was sent to you. It expires in 3 days, so make sure to complete the setup quickly. Without an online bond account, we won’t be able to process your bond refund.

9. When will I receive my bond refund?

Bond refunds are typically processed within 14 days after your lease end date, once the final inspection is complete and any outstanding fees are settled.

10. Can I update my forwarding address for mail?

Yes, make sure to collect any remaining mail or parcels from the front desk before you leave, and update your forwarding address to ensure your mail reaches you after you move out.

11. What if I need to access the property after checking out?

Once you’ve checked out and returned your access card and had your mobile key disabled, you will no longer have access to the property. If you need special arrangements, please speak with the front desk before your departure.

12. Do I need to leave behind any items provided by Iglu?

Yes, please leave behind any appliances or items that were provided to you at the beginning of your stay, such as toasters or kettles, as these belong to the property. The mattress protector is yours to keep. If you want to throw it out, please take it down to the waste room on the lower ground floor next to the bike storage room.
