Getting your room ready for departure
As you prepare to leave, our goal is to ensure a smooth and hassle-free check-out process. Here, you’ll find all the information you need to prepare for your departure and final inspection.
Preparing for inspection
- Remove personal belongings from your room and communal living areas (including linen, refrigerated food, kitchenware, and rubbish).
- Follow our cleaning guide and give your room a thorough clean to ensure it’s ready for the next resident. Please note that charges will apply if the apartment doesn’t meet the required standard.
- Alternatively, opt for Iglu to complete the cleaning for you (see below for charges).
What we assess
- The following areas will be inspected: bedroom, bathroom, hallway, kitchen, and allocated shelving and fridge spaces in the communal area of share apartments. View our cleaning checklist for more details.
- We evaluate the cleanliness of your apartment compared to the original condition report.
- Any damage which was not recorded may be charged to your account.
Cleaning fees
Cleaning is a key part of the departure process to ensure our apartments are ready for the next resident. Your two options for cleaning are:
1. Clean your apartment yourself
If you choose to clean your apartment yourself, we will conduct a departure inspection for cleanliness and damage after you check out. If you would like to be present during this inspection, please let us know at the front desk at least 7 days before your departure date. Make sure to follow our cleaning guide to avoid additional cleaning charges.
2. Iglu arranges professional cleaning
If you don’t meet Iglu’s cleaning expectations listed on the cleaning checklist, Iglu will organise professional cleaning and the following charges will apply:

Please note: An additional $10 is charged for removal of any rubbish left behind, up to 72 litres (XL green rubbish bag)
Cleaning Guide
If you’re cleaning your own apartment, we’ve put together a handy guide so you don’t miss a spot! Following the cleaning checklist will ensure your room meets the Iglu standard and helps you avoid any additional cleaning fees.
Some things that are often missed by residents:

Mattress protector is yours. Throw it out if you don’t need it.

Slide the mattress. Make sure no garbage is under your bed.

Clean out all drawers and shelves and give it a wipe to finish off.

Dust off the desk lamp and light switches. Make sure it is turned off.

Dust off the windowsill, blinds, and skirting boards.

Wardrobe should be empty. Do not leave hangers behind.

Wipe off the mirror and make sure it is spotless.

After cleaning the shower and tiles, make sure to wipe off the edges of the door.

Give the toilet a good clean and make sure no stains are left in the toilet.

Toss your rubbish and take your belongings with you to avoid being charged for rubbish disposal.
